The golden bay in the southeast of Mallorca
Picturesque bays nestle against the turquoise blue sea, a small marina and white houses adorn the picture. We are talking about Cala d'Or on the south-east coast of Mallorca.

The municipality of Cala d'Or, which has around 4,000 inhabitants, is located in the Migjorn region, around 60 kilometers south of the island's capital Palma. While a few years ago it was only visited as a stopover on a tour of the island, it has now blossomed into an increasingly popular tourist destination on Mallorca. However, this does not mean that you will find overcrowded beaches and huge hotel complexes here. Although the range of hotels has grown in recent years and the entertainment options have become even more varied, everything is still very manageable and idyllic.

Incidentally, the seaside resort of Cala d'Or was artificially created in the early 1930s by Spanish architect Josep Costa Ferrer. As he was a native of the Balearic island of Ibiza, you can see a certain similarity to the neighboring island, especially in the architecture.

In addition to the beautiful beaches, which we will come to in more detail in a moment, you should definitely visit Es Forti on your Mallorca vacation, a former fortress that once served as protection and refuge from pirates and was completely restored after an earthquake in the 18th century.
